12/12  What I really want is better moblogging, says Joi

Joi writes in Will more moblog help? about being slightly bored about blogging* and he asks if moblogging will be a solution.
When I was in Helsinki visiting Nokia a few days ago, I playing with my phone waiting in line and in cabs. It dawned on me that what I really want is better moblogging. Now, when I am in front of a computer connected to the Internet, I'm mostly immersed in IM for business or Warcraft for fun. When I am mobile, I have idle time that I could spend reading blogs and writing to my blog. I guess this is a sign that, at least for me, blogging has moved from my primary online activity to my idle time filler. However, considering how much idle time I have with my phone, I think I could still blog at a relatively consistent rate.
Here I fully agree with Joi and I really use the phone a lot to read weblogs. I also like to add that podcasting has become something I listen to almost daily during my commute time (most often a walk along the river;). And yes, we still have to improve on some stuff, but it's not that bad anymore. During the 2003 International moblogging conference, we were still way behind what is already possible today.

My immediate wishes concerning moblogging and mobile blogs (I still like to make a distinction) are:
  • more speed (UTMS still is far too slow;)
  • it's way too expensive
  • QR Codes everywhere
  • I would like to do way more than blogging, phoning and chatting

And uh, I probably buy a PSP to get rid of my laptop...

* Being an A-List blogger of the publishing type (where as I am more the notebook aka del.icio.us type of blogger), this feeling doesn't surprise me.
