Mobile Social Marketing – Digital Mindset Goes Mobile

An alternative is to use services that adapt blogs and other feeds to view on mobile phones. Two such services worth looking at are Kaywa's Feed2Mobile service (in beta) and Winksite. What makes these services interesting is they are examples of mobile web 2.0 mashups, where web content is automatically repurposed for mobile consumption. Such tools make it almost trivial to mobilize one's blog. And they provide nifty mobile hyperlinks to make the mobilized blog easily accessible from camera phones with the right scanner software.

I first learned about Feed2Mobile from this interesting video by Elektrischer Reporter. The service provides a specially adapted version of RSS feeds for viewing on mobile phones. The mobilized feed is browser-based and looks much better on the phone than one would likely experience with a standard text-based reader. Even cooler, though, Feed2Mobile generates a QR code, a mobile hyperlink enabling users to set up the feed on their phone without having to type a URL on the phone's keypad and otherwise navigate the phone's menu system to configure the blog. To use the mobile hyperlink, user's scan the code using their phone's camera.

Thanks Stephen.

17/9  Kufi and QR Code

Kufi QR

I just discovered this post on the Dubaiblog from Hochparterre. And I was really impressed by the similarity of Kufi and QR Codes.
In the example above I used a link to a mobile site and I imagine one could use QR Codes and Kufi's to tell the same content in different languages - once as written kufi and once as a mp3 file where someone reads the content of the kufi. This way one can address different publics.

And imagine the use in architecture, on a middle eastern telecom building full of kufi's and QR Codes.

14/9  .Net QRCode Library - Also for Windows Mobile

The cool thing about standards is, every now and then there is someone coming up with something new which advances everything.

Last example is the .NET QRCode Library
QRCode Library is a .NET component that can be used to encode and decode QRCode. QRCode is a 2 dimensional bar code that originated in Japan. Nowadays it is widely used in a wide range of industries, e.g. for vehicle parts tracking and inventory management.

Some inspiration to play with QR Codes:
Barcamp Brighton - QR codes and Wumpuses

There is also a cool way to pick a winner with QR Codes:
Use offline codes with simple text QR Codes ("Try again!") for the looser QR Codes and give the "winner" QR Codes a link to get some points to add to your point account or give them directly access to something nice: a song or a cool wallpaper like the one below:

The Future Is Black And White
Send word to your fingers - they're going out of business.
From now on when it comes to communication, all you need are a thumb and a cameraphone.

QR codes have arrived from Japan - it stands for Quick Response and is a means of condensing information (names, addresses, web links) into a black and white pattern.

It's the equivalent of a supermarket barcode - gobbledegook to the naked eye, but through a QR-enabled phone suddenly sensible.

Unlike a barcode you can use your mobile phone to decipher it.

PS: The future has not to be black and white by the way. Color QR Codes are no problem.
