It's old news, but still interesting, as it shows how you can automate processes with QR Codes.

Kura Zushi's QR Code conveyor belt sushi
From RFID in Japan:
QR Code blog recently reported on the use of QR codes at Kura Sushi, a belt-conveyor sushi restaurant chain.Kura Sushi uses a unique system called "dish pocket" that allows customers to immediately return finished plates by throwing them into a slot directly mounted on a dining table. Then the computer system detects the plates and calculates the total price.
By using such a system you cannot only calculate prices but optimize the production quantity of each type of Sushi based on predicted consumer demands. Also you could give customers an add on by letting them collect points which they could redeem later.
